anything i want...within reason of course.

Well, my time as blogger has finally come and it just happens to be the day I didn't have a camera on me! but thanks to Daniel we have some pictures.

Alright, first off we woke up around 6 or 6:30 and worship was at 7. I haven't breakfast like once this whole trip, but I'm still alive. So we hopped on the metro and zipped over to the Library of Congress. When I walked up to the front I was pretty stoked. The outside of the building is pretty fancy. When you walk inside though, now that is really awesome, and as Daniel so delicately put it “in fact it was so fancy that it made me think that everyone back then was making bank and building, like mansions everywhere”. The ceiling is like a million feet tall and everything looks like it could jump right off the wall and eat you. Even the floor was all prettied up. I saw the Gutenberg Bible and other assorted Bibles. I thought I was going to be able to actually go inside the library part of the library, and not just the front… but I was wrong. So after we left the library we meandered on over to the cannon building and some very nice people work there and we got a somewhat guided tour of the Emancipation Hall and the Senate Vestibule… and all over the capitol. There is a whole lot that could be said, but that won’t because Mr. Anderson’s keyboard isn’t suiting my hands very well. After we watched a few short clips and walked around for about 2 or 3 hours, everyone was hungry, so it was up some stairs into a strange Subway. I asked the lady to put “light” mustered on and she put on twice as much as normal. Jake bought my sandwich for me “thanks man” because I forgot my wallet. We then headed over to the Holocaust memorial and that left a big impression on me. We then went to the Jefferson memorial. It was fairly plain compared to the capitol but it was still way cool. I really like the Grecian style of architecture. Then to put the icing on the cake, we went to a really snazzy restaurant and I was stuffed. Yeah crazy day!

Washington D.C. Trip: April 19

Today was a very exhilarating day! Our feet feel like they are going to fall off. We walked about seven or more miles today. The first thing we did was stand in line for Washington Monument tickets for about 45 minutes. To wait, most of us sat and sang songs. After we got our tickets, we were very excited that we were going to see Ford's Theatre. At Ford's Theatre an elderly man told us the story of Lincoln's assassination. It was very interesting. Then we went across the street to the building where Lincoln actually died. Next we used our tickets to go up inside the Washington Monument. The view was absolutely beautiful! After feeling minorly claustrophobic, we went into the elevator to go down 555 feet. Next we went to the Air and Space Museum. It was interesting to see the Spirit of St. Louis, Glamourous Glennie, and much much more. Then we got to see a 3D Imax movie about the Hubble telescope. It was amazing to see so much of God's creation! Our next stop was to the Bureau of Engraving. We got to see how paper money was made. All of us wished that they would give away some samples. Then we took pictures of our whole class in our D.C. shirts at the Bureau of Engraving and finally the White House. Although we didn't get to go inside, the outside was very beautiful. Our last history stop of the day is important to every United States Citizen. We went to the National Archives, and were priveleged to see the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Magna Carta (published in 1297), and the Bill of Rights. Finally after being starved all day, we got to eat at Pentagon City. Today was very educational and fun. We all are anticipating tomorrow! -Maverick and Taylee :]

Sunday April 18, 2010

In the morning when we rose
The boys woke up too late
The girls were all on time
And for the metro we did wait

Headed to Mt. Vernon
A cruise ship we did take
Along the blue Potomac
A mighty river, not a lake

To see the one and only
George Washington’s quarters
A tour of this we took
And obeyed Anderson’s orders…. “no touching ” =)

To see the 21 room house
And its intricate design
Walking here and there
Longing for a recline

Back to our dear metro
To see more history
Korea, WWII, Vietnam
And Lincoln we did see

Finishing with dinner
And worship in the room
Now time to go to sleep
It ended all too soon

Saturday-April 17

Today we went to the Arboretum we saw Azelea's, and had church there. Afterwards we had a picnic lunch which people from a local church brought. Then we went to the Arlington National Cemetery. We went back to the hotel and had sundown worship. Then we went out to dinner at Chevy's! Since it was a tradition from last year, we said it was Mr. Anderson's birhday. Then we came back to the hotel, hoping for a good night sleep. =)

Friday-April 16, 2010

Thursday night was spent in a Holiday Inn in Philadelphia. We had tried to get a tour at the Federal Reserve the previous day, but had failed. So on Thursday, we started the day off by visiting the Philadelphia U.S. Mint which was quite interesting. The tour included a hallway with exhibits outlining the history of the process of making coins, and some interesting events related to certain coins. If the Mint had produced a coin commemorating a certain event, there was an exhibit that had some history of the actual event. Unfortunately, no pictures were allowed inside the Mint.

After the Mint, we tried once again to get a tour in the Federal Reserve, but learned to our dismay that they would only take groups of 10 or less, and only after 11:00. It was 9:30, and we would have had to split our group into around three seperate groups. So we decided to skip the Reserve, and head onto the main attraction, Washington D.C.

Once at Washington D.C., we located our hotel, the Reagan National Airport Raddisson, and parked our cars in the adjacent parking garage. We then went to the Crystal City Mall for some lunch. Afterwhich, we proceeded to the Metro, a new experience for most of the class. We took the Metro to the Smithosonian National Museum of American History. The first exhibit we viewed was the authentic Star-Spangled Banner on display. This flag was the inspiration for our country's theme song and the exhibit was very touching. After this we visited alot of other very interesting exhibits, including Military History of America, Dresses Worn By The First Ladies, and Entertainment and Music. One thing that was really cool was a piece of the beam that was recovered from Ground Zero.

After the Smithsonian, we returned to the hotel to check in and take a brief break. Then we went to the Pentagon City Mall on an exciting adventure to find food. We found the food court and had dinner.

We then returned to the hotel to have evening worship and to divy up the food that will be used for each individual room's breakfast.

We look forward to Sabbath, and a relaxing day.

Thursday

well we stayed the night in Baltimore Sheraton on Wednesday night. Then on Thursday morning we had breakfast and worship in Mrs. Zackrison's room. Tyler had worship this morning and it was about happiness and appreciating what you have. Then we ended up driving and we saw Fort McHenry which was really fun. It was the fort that the British attacked during the war of 1812 and where Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. After that we drove to Philidelphia where we had lunch in downtown Phili. Many people enjoyed eating authentic Phili cheese stakes (which they just call cheese stakes here)After that we went to Independence hall where we saw where the Declaration was mostly signed. Then we went to see the Liberty Bell.
(and before we even left Sacramento Jake's dreams were crushed by a middle aged woman. who said "Don't try out for the MBA.")
Now we're at the Holiday Inn which is in the historic distric of Philidelphia. Tomorrow we're heading to D.C.!!
